Practical recommendations
- Specify barrier hose: a nylon or PA barrier layer is mandatory for R1234yf to meet permeation limits.
- Check the crimp system: the fitting, ferrule and crimping die must be validated as a set; mixing brands is the most common cause of field leaks.
- Confirm oil compatibility: elastomer swell in PAG/POE oil differs from mineral-oil-era compounds.
- Test at the assembly level: 100% helium or nitrogen leak testing at the crimp, plus burst and impulse testing per SAE J2064.
